Are your Facebook fans and Twitter followers more loyal to your companies compared to non Facebook fans and non Twitter followers? ROI Research did a survey (2997 people) on April 2011. The types of companies as below.

So, Facebook and Twitter, which fans or followers are more loyal? Let's examine the research result below.

Connecting to Companies

Generally, Twitter followers (bar graph above) are more likely to talk about and recommend a company or products once twitters become a company's followers.

More Loyal to a Company

Compare 2010 and 2011 (the bar graphs above), a company's followers on Twitter increases in percentage of loyal (strongly agree + somewhat agree) from 40% to 46%. While Facebook only increase 2% (from 32% to 34%). Same goes to the two bar graphs below. From the survey, it seems that Twitter followers are more loyal compared to Facebook fans.

In Malaysia, Twitter is not the most popular social networking site compared to Facebook. Most Malaysians spend their time on Facebook. Rather than only depends on one social networking site, my advice is put your social media marketing plan on both websites. Slowly, your Return on Investment (ROI) will tell you which social networking site is more valuable to your company.

Where to advertise in East Malaysia

Few days ago, I shared with you What, How, Where to Advertise in Malaysia for 2011. Today, I am going to share with you where to advertise to people in East Malaysia. Thanks to Omicom Media Group (OMG) revealed the findings of its first study profiling media consumption habits in East Malaysia.

First, let us study the population in East Malaysia.

As you can see the graph above, 70% are under 40 years old, especially Sabah. Sabah has 35% of 20 – 29 years old population.

Where to advertise in East Malaysia

Most people in East Malaysia spend their time on watching TV and spending time with family at home. While they are online (chart below), they spend their time on social networks and email the most. If you want to sell to people in East Malaysia, SEO may not the best marketing strategy you have to use for your internet marketing plan. You need to engage them on social networks e.g Facebook.

Internet & TV are both resilient to economy impact

Internet is still number one choice that Malaysian consumers will maintain even during the economic downturn and TV is number two. This bar graph gives you a strong message where you should advertise. If you don't have huge budget for TV advertising, then you should go for internet advertising.

Gaming has become a family bonding-cum-entertaining tool

Another way you can advertise is via game on social networking sites, e.g Facebook. According to the research, Malaysia consumers agree that gaming has become a family bonding-cum-entertaining tool.


Conclusion

To advertise in 2011, make sure you have strong cost-saving and products benefits messages to Malaysian consumers on Internet or TV. I don't say that other ways are not useful but from the Omnicom Media Group research, it clearly tells us what Malaysian consumers need and where they are.
