There are many ways to boost your staff creavitiy. E.g traveling, relaxing, listening to music, attending creativity classes, etc. But there is one way which you can use to boost your staff creativity and you don't have to invest huge amount of money - Playing Lego. This is actually what I do for my staff every month.
How does it work?
Before our company started implementing Lego contest, we bought some Lego sets. We take those Lego sets' instructions away (never disclose to your staff). We combine all the Lego sets we bought into one box.
Each month, we ask all staff (especially designers) to take part. All staff have to use the available Lego accessories or sets and their own imagination to build whatever they want to build. After building their own Lego sets, we ask our staff to vote which the best Lego is and the winner will walk away with cash, a brand Lego set or other rewards.
Why does it work?
First, it is fun, relax and no pressure. Lego is not only good for creativity, but good for fun and relax. It refreshes our mind.
Second, it is low cost. Compared to travelling in order to push creativity, prices for Lego sets are very for companies.
Third, long term. You can keep your Lego as long as you can, unless you lost it. And keep buying Lego, keep adding Lego accessories from time to time so that your Lego accessories are getting many and your staff can imagine even more for their own creations.
Fourth, reward. I have to say, this is not really important because sometimes the satisfaction for them to build even more Lego sets is not from the reward, but from what they have build, which I have shared before the topic about Ikea Effect.
Fifth, it helps in building relationshiop. During working time, communication between two different departments may not happen frequently, sometimes even have conflict. But with Lego Contest, it encourages cross departmental communication and build positive relationship.
Below are some of my cretions. But my staff are better!
These are what I have created by using my own imagination with limited accessories above.
